WordPress Remembers

Remembers

Legacy is something I think a lot about. It seems these days people are interested in making as much money as they can and getting out.

Where are the people want to make an impact?

The new WordPress Memorial project honors those who have passed on and left a legacy.

“WordPress dedicates this page to the memory of those we’ve lost. They’ve shaped our project and enriched our community. As we remember their passion and commitment to WordPress and open source software, we celebrate their spirit.”

It is a curation of the names and links to relevant resources such as the person’s profile, a remembrance or a scholarship fund.

I am glad to see this. I know some who have passed on meant a great deal to others.

Barn2 Plugins gains new plugin

Read WooCommerce Product Tabs is now part of the Barn2 family

WooCommerce Product Tabs is now part of the Barn 2 Family. In case you dont know about this plugin, according to Katie Keith,

“WooCommerce Product Tabs is a flexible plugin designed to allow e-commerce store owners to add extra information to their product pages. It does this by adding extra tabs to the page, which you can use to add a range of additional information about the product.”

Over the years, it seems that WooCommerce has been short of things needed out of the box. Add-ons, of course, help solve the problem.

Third-party developers have spent time creating many of these add-ons.

The tabs plugin is a great way to keep your customer from going elsewhere to find pertinent information.

Barn2 has spent time creating a nice WooCommerce portfolio and Keith explained the tabs plugin fits nicely into their line of products.

Keith explained the process was 4 weeks from start to finish, with a final deal in place by July 18, 2023.

You can read Keith’s article on the process and the story on their website.

This fulfilled a goal she had for her Barn 2 when the year started of acquiring a plugin for the company.

ClassicPress Community Considers Re-forking WooCommerce for Classic Commerce v2

ClassicPress Community Considers Re-forking WooCommerce for Classic Commerce v2

Speaking of WooCommerce, the WP Tavern is reporting that Classic Press is considering re-forking WooCommerce.

Classic Commerce as it is called was first released in 2020, an original fork of WooCommerce 3.5.3 for the ClassicPress project.

ClassicPress is set to release 2.0 soon and looking to ensure the e-commerce solution will work with the new version.

“ClassicPress contributors are discussing the future of Classic Commerce, which is a fork of WooCommerce 3.5.3 created to provide a reliable e-commerce solution for ClassicPress users. The community is now bracing for the inevitable compatibility issues introduced by version 2.0 that will require a massive undertaking to resolve.”

It will be interesting to see how ClassicPress moves forward to update their e-commerce solution

What Do Freelancers Need From WordPress?

Read What Do Freelancers Need From WordPress?

Eric Karkovack at the WP Minute raised some good points in this latest article. It seems to me “freelancer” here means the rest of us who create websites for the average business, solopreneurs, designers, developers, etc.

As he points out, there have been lots of changes with multiple options to do things much differently. The results have been frustrating for freelancers.

Here is where I think the article makes a great point,

“But there are also valid points. Freelancers and small agencies play a significant role in growing WordPress. Shouldn’t we have a seat at the table?”

He adds,

“It seems like everyone could benefit from such a collaboration. Imagine core contributors working with a panel of “blue-collar” professionals. Each group could gain a better understanding of their needs.”

Karkovack rightly makes a call for better collaboration, or, mostly, for those in the WordPress leadership to actually listen to concerns of freelancers.

He believes that if WordPress takes care of freelancers, then freelancers will take care of them.

The other side of this coin is if freelancers fail to be heard, I think they will leave the ecosystem altogether and use something different.
