Value Added Tax (VAT) FAQs
The Value Added Tax, or VAT, is a general, broadly based consumption tax assessed on the value added to goods and services within the territory of a European Union (EU) Member State.
Prices on MainWP’s website do not include VAT. The VAT is displayed separately. When applicable, it gets charged separately, and it gets listed on invoices and billing information.
Who needs to pay for VAT?
As a non-EU company that sells products to customers in the European Union (EU), MainWP is required to comply with the European VAT regulations and charge VAT to customers located in the European Union.
Customers classified as Business or Charity users in the EU may be required to self-account for VAT under EC Directive 2006/112, Art 196, using the reverse charge mechanism.
If you are not familiar with the VAT self-accounting rules in your country, for more information, please contact your accountant or professional adviser.
Why are you making us pay VAT since you’re a U.S. company?
As a non-EU supplier, we are required to account for VAT on products sold to EU non-business customers as a result of the VAT place of supply rules contained in Council Directive 2006/112/EC on the common system of value added tax.
To meet our EU VAT obligations, we have opted to register for VAT under the particular scheme for non-EU suppliers of electronic services, also known as the one-stop scheme, following Article 357 to 369 of the above EC Directive rather than register for VAT in each EU member state separately.
Since we registered for VAT under this one-stop scheme, we are required to charge VAT to non-business customers at the rate which applies in the customer’s country. The collected VAT is going to be paid to the Office of the Revenue Commissioners for Ireland since this is the place where we have chosen to register for the one-stop scheme.
What is MainWP’s VAT Registration Number?
MainWP’s VAT identification is EU372010329.
Why does your VAT ID begin with the “EU”?
As a non-EU supplier, our VAT registration number has the “EU” prefix and has been issued by the e-services (ROS.ie) team of Office of the Revenue Commissioners for Ireland.
Where is the VAT amount on my invoice?
The VAT is being listed separately on invoices and billing information.
Is VAT included in MainWP’s prices?
The VAT is not included in prices. It is displayed separately on our website. When applicable, VAT gets charged separately, and it gets listed on invoices and billing information.
