MainWP 2.0 released
We are excited to release the all new MainWP 2.0, focused largely on backups and overall Dashboard usability. With almost 3 months of development and 1000’s of lines of code changes this release is our most extensive and exciting update.
MainWP 2.0 by the numbers
82 Days in development
Over 100 active beta testers (testers with at least 1 report)
The Dashboard plugin had 77 files changed with 7,037 lines added or modified
The Child Plugin had 19 files changed with 2,924 lines added or modified
4 all new Archive Types for backups
One of the bigger changes in this update is that Instead of only being able to backup in Zip format, which some servers do not respond well to, MainWP now allows you to backup in 4 different archive types:
Tar Gzip: Creates a GZipped tar-archive. (Good compression, fast, low memory usage)
Tar Bzip2: Creates a BZipped tar-archive. (Best compression, fast, low memory usage)
Tar: Creates an uncompressed tar-archive. (No compression, fast, low memory usage)
Zip: Uses PHP native Zip-library, when missing, the PCLZip library included in Wordpress will be used. (Good compression, fast with native zip-library)
During Beta testing found most servers respond best to Tar Gzip but each site can be be different so try all four types. You can read more about Backup in the MainWP Backups help doc.
How to update
Updating the Dashboard
The Dashboard update should already be showing on your Dashboard site in the standard WordPress plugin area. Just update as you would any normal plugin.
Updating your Child sites
Once you have updated your Dashboard Plugin you should Sync Data your from your MainWP Dashboard page. This will show that your MainWP Child plugin needs updating then just press the Upgrade button to update the Child sites across your network.
Check the changes
You can check each plugins changelog at WordPress.org
All the Extensions have also been updated
All MainWP Extensions have also been updated in order to work with the all new Extension system. The new Extension system allows you to download and install Extensions directly from your Dashboard’d Extension page so you no longer need to install them manually.
We’ll add your API keys for future Extensions to your account within the next 24 hours. The API key is not needed for the current Extensions to function.
