Blocking Bad Bots on your Child Site using Booter Plugin

Like something out of a sci-fi movie, bots will inevitably hit your site to index it, trying to add products to cart and create spam accounts if you are using WooCommerce on a child site.

One of the easiest ways to block bot crawlers on your child site is to use the Booter plugin to boot those bots.

After you have installed and activated the plugin, it will add a new sub-menu in wp-admin on the child site.

Settings > Booter – Bots & Crawler Manager

Which will take you to the general option settings of the plugin:

Disavow Backlinks

You can enable rate limit from the general options. You can rate limit logged in user, or the rate limit will only apply to guest users on the site who have not logged in. You can define the maximum number of requests per minute.

The robots.txt will create a backup of the existing robots.txt if there is a physical robots.txt which exists on the server. In the advanced settings, you can add different user agents into the created robots.txt file.

The disavow backlinks will generate a txt file that can be uploaded in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, to disavow backlinks for the site.

The ability to block bad bots and crawler from crawling your site, and limit the number of requests, will help your site restrict traffic to good bots, crawler, and valid site users.
