Year in Review 2024

Take a look at some of the highlights that defined 2024

As we celebrate 11 years of MainWP, we thought it would be an ideal time to reflect on 2024, with its hits, misses, and everything in between. 2024 was a milestone in MainWP’s journey, marked by several transformative updates, community engagement, and continuous innovations. From celebrating a decade of MainWP to launching major version updates and expanding our knowledge resources, every month brought new opportunities to enhance how users manage their WordPress sites.

Laying the Foundation: January – March

We kicked off the year by focusing on empowering users with practical tools and insights. The MainWP Coach Series introduced tutorials on managing plugins and themes across multiple child sites, while the third-party integration utilizing the FlowMattic extension streamlined task automation. Recognizing the importance of data privacy, Donata from Termageddon shared actionable tips for safeguarding user information in observance of Data Privacy Day. Additionally, insights from the 2023 Web Care Survey helped users navigate pricing models and industry trends.

In Februray, we celebrated MainWP’s 10th Anniversary with nostalgic reflections and podcasts. The release of MainWP v5.0 was the biggest update of the year, we built upon our API Backups Extension, added the Time Tracker Extension, and the Dashboard Insights Module for real-time data and trends. We also tackled the growing concerns surrounding AI-generated content and deepfakes, equipping users with knowledge to navigate an evolving digital landscape.

March saw continued improvements with MainWP v5.0.2, bringing usability enhancements such as a color picker tool and improved filtering options.

Expanding Features and Engagement: April – June

April was all about user feedback and community building. We explored the idea of a public MainWP Discord server through a user survey, and Marc engaged in one-on-one sessions to better understand customer needs. Meanwhile, our sponsorship of the Page Builder Summit included Marc’s presentation on modern workflows and a prize poll to encourage participation. Security remained a priority, with updates to OAuth and 2FA for Google Analytics integration.

May brought new ways for users to interact with MainWP. As sponsors of Page Builder Summit 7.0, we hosted interactive sessions and giveaways. Additionally, our MainWP 101 video series expanded significantly, with 15 new tutorials covering platform basics. The introduction of weekly live Office Hours on Discord further strengthened our connection with the community. While, overall, the sessions were productive and informative, technical glitches and considerations led us to abandon the life format and a retooling of the way we present video content.

June continued the trend of feature enhancements, with the release of MainWP v5.1, introducing automatic rollback for failed updates, enhancing security and stability. Discussions on the American Data Privacy Rights Act (ADPRA) educated users on upcoming legal changes, while the community showcased its innovation with the release of the MainWP Discord Notifications plugin by Isaac Russell.

Community, Compliance, and Customization: July – September

July reinforced our focus on education and industry discussions. The MainWP 101 videos expanded further, covering essential extensions like Code Snippets, Domain Monitor, and Dashboard Lock. At WordCamp Canada, Marc’s presentation, The Problem(s) with WordPress, sparked meaningful conversations. We also explored plugin management efficiencies with the Favorites Extension and kept users updated on privacy law changes through detailed articles.

August highlighted the power of community collaboration, showcasing user-generated solutions from the MainWP Discord Community, including webhooks for site actions. Updates to the Child Reports Extension improved its compatibility and usability, while Marc appeared on several podcasts discussing the state of WordPress.

September was a month of innovation. The release of MainWP v5.2 introduced REST API v2, enabling seamless integrations with tools like GPTs, Make, and Zapier for automation. In her monthly submission, Donata tackled Legal compliance, with an in-depth look at New York Attorney General’s cookie consent guidance. Our presence at WordCamp US reinforced our commitment to the WordPress community, and custom integrations, such as MainWP Community member Nathan Foley’s Client Notes for Pro Report Extension, showed off the adaptability of MainWP’s and the advantages of Open Source.

Closing the Year with Major Enhancements: October – December

October prepared users for the holiday season with new educational content and platform previews. The MainWP 101 video series expanded further with tutorials on the Article Uploader Extension and the Sucuri Extension. A preview of MainWP v5.3 teased major upcoming features like faster site migrations and multilingual support.

November saw the early release of MainWP v5.3, bringing critical features like uptime monitoring, multilingual support, and an improved Add Multiple Sites tool. We engaged the community with the Web Care Consultant’s Survey, created to gather valuable feedback to shape future updates. Marc also participated in podcasts which included panel discussions on WordPress trends, covering topics like GPL clubs and the current state of WordPress.

December wrapped up the year with the official launch of MainWP v5.3, introducing password authentication, built-in uptime monitoring, and bulk child site connection features. Updated instructional videos and Knowledge Base articles ensured users could maximize these new tools. Community engagement remained strong across Discord, Facebook, and LinkedIn, and user feedback played a key role in planning for 2025.

2024 in Numbers

Over the past year, MainWP released three major version updates (v5.0, v5.1, v5.2, and v5.3), introducing groundbreaking features such as API Backups, REST API v2, multilingual support, automatic rollback, uptime monitoring, and improved site management tools.

The MainWP 101 video series saw substantial growth, with over 20 new tutorials, covering core functionalities and extensions. Our weekly live Office Hours on Discord fostered real-time engagement, and we strengthened community collaboration through active discussions on Discord, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

MainWP continued to play an essential role in WordPress industry conversations, with active participation in WordCamps, panel discussions, and the Page Builder Summit. We also expanded our Knowledge Base, providing users with even more resources for managing their sites effectively.

As 2025 is ramping up, we remain committed to empowering users with powerful tools, insightful resources, and an engaged community. Thank you for being part of our journey—we look forward to an even more impactful year ahead!
