Q&A with Matt Davies & Mel Fallon of Funnel Packs

Q&A with Matt Davies & Mel Fallon of Funnel Packs

Earlier this year Matt Davies and Mel Fallon launched Funnel Packs. It is a service in which the landing page, the email follow-ups, and the lead magnet are packaged for website agencies.

Davies has been a web developer for almost two decades and agency owner for 13 years. He spent time creating a process he uses to execute these lead funnels. He decided to share them with other agency owners. The result is Funnel Packs.

Each pack comes with an editable Lead magnet, a Landing page using Elementor, a Thank you page, a Welcome email, Nurture emails, and a Sales Email along with videos to help with implementation, recommended tools and a Facebook community for help.

I caught up with Davies and Fallon, the Funnel Packs designer, to get more information about their process. In this article, you will learn:

  • The real reason the duo created the product
  • Learn what one of the driving forces is for Davies and Fallon
  • What they hope to accomplish in the next few years
  • What the biggest challenge of launching Funnel Packs was
  • What they learned overcoming the challenges

How did the idea for Funnel Packs come about?

We first started talking about Funnel Packs as a concept and product during Christmas of 2018. The idea stemmed from our combined experience of struggling through the feast and famine cycle, at different times in our professional lives.

We’ve seen on a regular basis, how many of our friends and peers have been struggling with running a digital agency or as a solo design/marketing practitioner. Knowing how it feels to be stuck in these types of situations, we wanted to be able to do something to help alleviate the pressure that we had so often felt previously.

Lead generation is typically one of the biggest struggles for agency owners, and in fact, for businesses around the world, no matter the industry. Using our experience of setting up lead generation systems in our own business and those of our clients, we devised a plan to help as many people as we could.

One of the biggest driving factors about Funnel Packs is our passionate belief that every business owner deserves to have positive mental health benefits in their lives.

One of the biggest driving factors about Funnel Packs is our passionate belief that every business owner deserves to have positive mental health benefits in their lives. While we know that our product can’t magically solve everything, if we can free up some time and stress in the life of an agency owner, this is really important to us.

Business is tough, and we know how hard every single business owner works to try and achieve their dream. It’s no secret that starting a business by yourself is literally jumping into the deep end. It’s really important to remember that you matter and it’s okay not to be okay.

What will people be surprised to find out about Funnel Packs?

We built everything in just over 6 weeks from the point of starting the work on February 28th and then launching on April 16th of this year.

Having been in the trenches we weren’t surprised by this ourselves, however, during podcast interviews and questions we’ve had from customers, they were amazed that we were able to bring everything together in such a short period of time.

It comes back to the driving force that we have and realising that we have a vehicle for change that has an opportunity to help thousands of business owners who are just like us.

It comes back to the driving force that we have and realising that we have a vehicle for change that has an opportunity to help thousands of business owners who are just like us.

Another thing that tends to surprise people is how much content we are putting out with a new Funnel Pack being released every fortnight. We regularly get asked if we find the time to sleep! We can humbly assure people that we do… with our eyes open.

We both gave up on our existing agency work on February 28th, spending a week firing clients (which was liberating, yet absolutely terrifying). We put everything we had into creating our product, and we hope that it reflects that.

What is one thing you hope to accomplish with Funnel Packs in the next few years?

First and foremost, we want to be able to make a positive change in the lives of as many business owners as we can. The feedback and response that we’ve had to our product have been overwhelming and frankly life-changing. But it’s not about us; it’s about you.

Matt has never been someone who can accept a compliment, certainly not since he struggled with his own mental health issues. He found it hard initially to deal with all of the kind words but is slowly using these as fuel for growth (for both him and Funnel Packs).

As the less “public” of our dynamic duo, Mel has also been overjoyed with the feedback, and like Matt, is excited to see what the future holds.

We’d love to be known for consistently delivering great products with a personable approach. We never want to lose the fun and friendly atmosphere that we cherish so much.

What was the biggest challenge of launching Funnel Packs?

Fear.

It might sound strange, but we were somewhat paralysed with fear and terrified before we launched on April 16th. Not because we didn’t believe that we were able to create something of value, more that it was the first time we were putting ourselves out there publicly, with our names backing a product.

The night before we released, Matt spent a long time pacing up and down the hallway between his computer and the front door of our house. You can still see track marks in the carpet where frantic strides were made.

Incidentally, if anyone who reads this works in the carpet industry… we highly recommend targeting people who are launching products, because it appears that there may well be high demand for new carpets.

How did you overcome any challenges of launching Funnel Packs? What did you learn?

When we first launched, we looked at how other people launched their products and courses, everything seemed so polished and natural. We hoped to emulate this, but we also wanted to be unique and stay true to ourselves.

We’ve learned that sticking to our principles of honesty and transparency with everything that we do, has made a world of difference with the love and support we’ve received from our customers. In fact, they regularly tell us how refreshing it is to see how open we are.

The single biggest thing that we’ve learned is that if you have a dream and want to make a difference in the world, you should absolutely follow your heart. There will be many challenges along the way, which can be scary. However, you’ll be defined by how you overcome these.

In the words of our friends at WP&UP, who runs a charity that is very dear to our hearts,  #PressForward.

What kind of agencies/developers do you anticipate Funnel Packs help?

We’re covering a broad spectrum of agency services, from Web Design to E-Commerce to Lead Generation. So there’s a variety of opportunities for people to set up lead generation systems in their business, to suit their services and target audience.

At present, we are helping agency owners, web designers, marketers, and graphic designers of all sizes, from a solo practitioner right up to agencies with 15+ employees. So, it seems that size doesn’t matter when it comes to Funnel Packs.

In the long run, we’d love to provide Funnel Packs for broader niches, which agencies and developers can purchase from us to use in their client’s businesses. We’ll also be offering fully custom funnels in the near future, which we’re excited about as we already have a number of enquiries from larger businesses in the WP space.

So the short answer is Funnel Packs help anyone who works in design and/or marketing, who wants to break out of the feast/famine cycle and get off the sales roller coaster. You’re our people and we’re here to help.

Wrapping it up

Matt and Mel hope to help agencies escape the feast and famine cycle. This hope is the driving force behind the Funnel Packs.

The packs are designed to help agencies get more consistent leads so that they can spend more time with their families and enjoy their success.

With every launch, there are struggles whether it just fear of trying or worrying that you will wear out your carpet.

Thanks for the story and the lessons, Matt and Mel.

  1. Thanks for asking us to be part of this Todd – was a pleasure to answer the questions 🙂

    1. Thanks for answering the questions!

  2. The concept is interesting. If I check the website, there is a constant push toward a five pack. Yet no clue of the contents will be fitting my business. Or perhaps I am misunderstanding the website…

    1. Hi Arjan,

We sell pre-built marketing funnels that cover various digital services such as Web Design, SEO, etc. You can see the available products on the ‘Funnel Packs’ page on the website.

We explain the principles and processes behind our product on the Home Page, About Page and each individual Sales Page. We also have an FAQ page that answers the most commonly asked questions.

As a customer, it would be beneficial to have some understanding of what a marketing funnel is. If you don’t understand what they are or have never spent time creating one, you’d likely have less appreciation for what we’re doing.

For someone with little or no knowledge of funnels, we’d recommend looking at Dave Foy’s excellent No Fear Funnels course.

As for a “constant push towards a five pack”, I respectfully disagree that this is the case. Since launch, we’ve had messages on a daily basis asking us if we have any offers or discounts available. We have tried to be fair throughout and always offer the best deal to customers. The 5 Pack Offer has a couple of call-outs to show the people who are asking us about discounts, where to find the best offer.

We have a small promotional banner at the top of the page (via ConvertBox). This disappears when a user has visited the 5 Pack Offer page or when a user clicks the “X” icon to close it.

There’s a couple of sections of content on the website that talk about the offer. Show me a website where people don’t provide their visitors a link to their best available offer 🙂 They don’t have to be clicked on and are easily ignored.

If you have any specific questions about our products and how they might help you, we are always happy to assist. You can fill in the Contact form, or if you click the ‘Members’ link in the navigation bar, you can use the HelpScout widget on the subdomain site to open a ticket with us.

Hope you have an awesome weekend 🙂
