WordPress Roundup

In this month’s WordPress roundup features articles from Freemius, Highrise Digital, and ProfitPress. We also take a look at a new aggregation website and a search engine for colors.

Ready? Let’s ride.

Credit Card Disputes – Freemius

A couple of weeks ago I heard a rant on Facebook from a WordPress consultant about Stripe problems. Apparently, this is something that seems to be happening with disputes. Well, Vova Feldman of Freemius wrote a great article about winning credit card disputes with Stripe.

He explains why and how you should go about with fighting dispute as well as why someone disputes a transaction in the first place.

Feldman even goes into how the process works including the various layers and institutions involved. Freemius also has a nice infographic for the process.

If you use Stripe to sell themes, plugins and other digital products, you might want to take a look at the article and learn how you do a better job fighting those disputes.

How to use Trello for projects – Highrise Digital

When it comes to organization and project management, I’m always interested to read other company’s stories on how they do that. Highrise is a small, remote, digital marketing firm. Recently they posted a long, thorough article about how they use Trello.

They talk about the reason behind using Trello including,

Highrise Digital staff work remotely, so having a culture of great internal communication is key to us getting things done well. Teams that are co-located may use whiteboards in the office or rely on the informal communication that happens when you sit next to one another to work. We’ve never had that luxury. We’ve had to work harder to make sure our team knows what to do and how to do it, and we’ve had to find good tools for the job. Cue Trello.

I know I could do way better for my use of Trello, but it is mostly just me, so I don’t have the incentive to improve. What do you use to make project management more manageable for you?

How to Make Money with WordPress: The Ultimate Guide (2018) – ProfitPress

Chalk this up as another “ultimate guide.” Thing is about those; they often don’t live up to the name. This article is well done with a good structure and addresses a lot of topics including what to do when you need money fast. However, there is at least one drawback.

The author even gives some sound business and career advice in the article. The author adds tons of resources, but they are all from their own website. While I have no problem with internal linking, it is also good practice to link outside your website. External linking is lacking.

Before we dive in, if you’re here looking for full-time work (e.g. not just a side job or hobby) remember to think long-term.  Think about what you want for career, not just a job.  Jobs are temporary and those with jobs are easy to replace.  You want a career where you’re learning, growing, your work is valued and you’re compensated accordingly. Career Advice, ProfitPress

Mostly this article, although with useful tips, serves as a hub for more articles on the website.

It is clear that ProfitPress has a wealth of articles on their website as they can link to dozens of articles they have already written. However, they need to draw some credibility by linking out to other articles on sites with authority.

Resources

For those who love playing with color ideas, there is a new search engine for colors. I ran the website when I was looking for resources for digital marketing. You might find it interesting.

The website is called Picular. The title says, “Google, but for colors.”  The website is a project of Future Memories, a digital studio.

I tried it out by putting in a few color names. It displays lots of options and gives you the HTML color code.

I also ran across a new aggregated WordPress site. It’s called CuratedPress, and it is a project of Jeffrey Carandang of PHP Bits Creative Studio. The site runs on the Genesis Framework. Jeffrey told me that he “. . . decided to create a site as a bookmark for articles and podcast that I find really helpful.”
