Comments 6.0, structural improvements, enhanced security and API support

The Comments Extension 6.0 contains significant updates, including support for MainWP REST API and integration into Network Activity logging.

Comments 6.0 Updates

The Comments 6.0 release introduces a range of improvements focused on security, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

NEW: REST API Support

A new REST API controller and supporting files have been added, providing a stronger foundation for future development.

NEW: Activity Tracking

Network Activity logging is now supported for comment actions, making it easier to track and audit comment-related changes.

Security Improvements

Input sanitization and output escaping have been strengthened across comment AJAX handlers, improving protection against unsafe data handling.

General Improvements

Includes minor updates to CSS, JavaScript, widgets, and documentation.

This update means that when users moderate comments from dashboard, those actions will be logged in the Network Activity feature so later users can review what and when was done by who.

The Comments extension has received several technical improvements focused on reliability, maintainability, and long-term compatibility. Database handling has been refactored with a new MainWP_Comment_DB wrapper, while MainWP_Comment_Utility now includes additional helpers for more consistent handling of types, dates, strings, and placeholders.

Session handling and internal structure in MainWP_Comment have also been improved through a singleton pattern and clearer documentation. Comment search and action handling have been refined to improve accuracy and make future development easier to maintain.

Comments 6.0 adds the kind of improvements that make a difference over time, from clearer activity tracking to a more reliable and secure foundation for managing comments at scale.
