See me if this sounds familiar.

You get to the office and log in to your ticket portal and find half a dozen support requests.

One by one you begin to go through each request and find them to be basic WordPress information. You get requests such as, “How do I add an image to my blog post?”

“How do I link to my favorite blog?”

“How do I update the biography in my profile information?”

“How do I create a new category on my blog? Where does my blog show that category?”

Very few of your requests have to do with an actual technical support. They are just questions that could be solved with a training session. Or, they could be solved with some videos in the WordPress dashboard.

Then it hits you, it is time to be more efficient with client training. After all, you have dozens or hundreds of clients and you can’t spend all your time answering these kinds of questions. You have websites to build!

Support is a part of our jobs as WordPress professionals. However, we can streamline an make it more efficient by providing WordPress training for your clients. Today we are going to take a look at three ways you can provide that training.

Training Sessions

Another option is to have a client training session. There are important things to remember when hosting a session.

First, make sure you are prepared. This will mean finding a way to deliver your session face to face or in person. Next, create an agenda. Plot out the direction of your session so there is no wasted time.

Third, get help. There are so many training materials available already created. No need to reinvent the wheel.

During your training session make sure you provide them with your training document, share your screen so that can see you doing the task, answer questions, show them how to create a blog post, and give them follow up resources they can use later.

Client Training Videos

Determine what your client needs to know. Things like the dashboard, how to write a post, how to write a page, how to add an image, how to add a Youtube video, using categories, managing comments, and basic maintenance might make your list.

How do you want to deliver these training videos? Services such as WP101, WPMU, and WPBeginner have a good library of videos you can use. Some are free, some you have to pay a license to use. None are very expensive.

Adding documentation that you make for your clients can be helpful as well as a client walk through.

Add Training Videos to the dashboard

Once you are done with your training session, you are going to want to leave you client ongoing resources. One of the ways you can do this is by adding videos to your client’s dashboard.

You can create your own videos using a screencasting software. Then, with the help of a plugin, you can embed them in your client’s WordPress dashboard. Or, if you prefer, you can use WP101’s video library plugin.

Client Reports

It is important to provide reports for clients who are on a care plan. Client reports help to document results, remind your client of goals, justifies your service, and delights your clients. Client reports support your WordPress training.

When providing reports, make sure to include marketing reports and MainWP Client reports.
