As you all know, WordPress 6.0 “Arturo” has been released with many improvements and new features.
This is a perfect time to test it on a staging site before updating your production sites. You can use the MainWP WordPress staging extension to create a staging site for your Child Site(s).
After updating your staging site to WordPress 6.0, head over to the Dashboard > Home, and you will see a screen as below:
Export & Import Block-based Theme
If you are using a block-based theme, you can now export the complete theme with all of the template changes made using the theme editor for the full site editor (FSE). You can then take the exported theme and install it on another site with all of the complete changes that have been made to it.
Some New Blocks
WordPress 6.0 introduced a few more blocks, including but not limited to post comments, read more, post biography, and avatar.
Lock Reusable Blocks to Specific User
If you use reusable blocks on your site, one of the pain points is that those changes will affect all of the other blocks used on the site if a user makes changes.
But with the WordPress 6.0, reusable blocks can be locked, which will prevent users from being able to change those blocks on the site.
However, you can easily disable it using a few lines of code.
Performance Improvements
WordPress 6.0 makes several performance improvements related to taxonomies, caching, and higher user counts.
The field guide for WordPress 6.0 covers more in-depth breakdowns of all of the new features and improvements that have been added.
