September WordPress Roundup: Talking Gutenberg Times, Frontity, and Koko Analtytics

It’s that time of the month where we dig into a roundup of WordPress news and such. And as David Lee Roth sang for Van Halen back in the day, “Might as well jump!” In this month’s WordPress Roundup we are talking about WP, Gutenberg Times, Frontity, Koko Analytics, and gearing up for the WPMRR Summit. You ready? Let’s ride. WPMRR Summit announces speakers WPMRR Summit is later this month and so far they have announced three rounds of speakers. I spoke to Joe Howard this week and he said he had a few more to announce. We will discuss

Installing MainWP extensions with confidence: A guide to help

Getting started with MainWP is fairly easy with the Easy MainWP Install. However, MainWP is a very robust and complicated tool. It gives you the power to create your own Software as a Service on a self-hosted WordPress install. It’s powerful. “With great power comes great responsibility.” I think Uncle Ben told Peter Parker, right? Well, there is a lot of power in your MainWP setup and the center of that power is the list of extensions that come available for use. It can be a bit confusing when it comes time to install extensions. I get that. After all,

Q&A with Lesley Sim of Newsletter Glue

Last year, I started noticing Lesley on Twitter. She interacted with people, including many of my WordPress connections. I noticed she had some kind of plugin. I didn’t really notice what it really was for a while. I did realize it had something to do with email newsletters. Over time I realized it was something I might use. So, I decided to give it a try for a new newsletter idea. I found it easy to use, and I was pleasantly surprised with how it worked. So today, I get to chat with Lesley Sim of Newsletter Glue to learn

Toolbox: Designers or Developers, use the power of AI to make your workflow faster and better

In this month’s toolbox, we are going to talk robots. More specifically, AI tools that will make your workflow faster. Do you freeze when you see another automation tool? I am reminded of the old 80s song by the Australian band Icehouse: I just freeze Everytime you see through me And it’s all over you Electric blue You don’t have to freeze! Let’s chat about it. Visual Regression Testing I asked a question recently in the MainWP Users Facebook group about how users look for changes in websites after updating. We had some great answers. In the process, I found

5 business traits I learned working in retail

What was your first job? Mine was at the local Safeway grocery store. My brother had a job there and I got one too. I worked there my Senior year in high school and one summer during college. Later, I worked in a bookstore. I would often refer to our bookstore as a retail store disguised as a bookstore. In reality, that bookstore was retail. I also worked in vending. I serviced machines, served food on a food bar, and counted the money as well as putting up stock in the warehouse. I learned something from all of those jobs,

Q&A with the organizers of WordFest Live

As someone who has had many health struggles, I am definitely in favor of looking after my own self-care. In fact, I have written articles about self-care at MainWP. I believe we should be self-aware. For that reason, I appreciate the role that the Big Orange Heart plays in this process. Further, I think that the WordFest Live conference is a worthy event due to the support of self-care and Big Orange Heart. Starting July 23, 2021, the second round of WordFest Live kicks off. Led by Dan Maby of Big Orange Heart, Michelle Frechette of GivWP and WPCoffeeTalk, WordCamp

7 WordPress email newsletters to keep you up to date

I have a confession to make. I get entirely too many email newsletters. I can’t read them all. You wanna know what’s hard? Most of them are excellent emails. They are easy to read, done well. It’s just hard to keep up. One thing I need to keep up with on the regular is WordPress news. I am making a concerted effort to streamline the best resources I know about. How about you? There are several WordPress email newsletters available to the community. Today we are going to take a look at seven of those  WordPress email newsletters. I might

July Roundup: Core Web Vitals, Block Patterns, and freedom

Every time I hear “Independence Day,” I tend to think of two things. First, I think of the movie starring a young Will Smith and Bill Pullman as the United States president. You know the one. Will Smith shoots down an alien ship in the desert and drags him back to some Air Force Base. Next thing we know, there is a fight for survival as the alien invasion finally comes. The United States leads the charge as the humans defeat the otherworldly beings. When I hear the words “Independence Day,” the other thing I think of is the song
